Fishbowl, Another Facebook Desktop Client
Fishbowl, the Facebook client shown at Microsoft’s debut to Silverlight 4, is now open for download and it adds quite a couple of young desktop features to the Facebook experience, including badges, a mini news feed, and more.
At First Sight, Fishbowl seems a lot like a re-formed, slightly improve looking version of Facebook. At the top it has it has a usual sections of Facebook, Home, Profile, Photos, etc. On the left side it got an options for the window you’re in. As a desktop client it has couple of new feature that really enhance Facebook’s usability.
The photo section is almost iPhoto or Picasa-like interface, you can scroll through whole albums and view pictures as usual, you can zoom single-photo view, view as slide show, save and even you can print the pictures from Fishbowl. It is built-in photo uploader, which is as easy as dragging and dropping to upload the pictures.
As usual desktop client, the notification are also easy to handle. Its taskbar icon supports for badges when you got message, wall post or comment on posts. Another quite interesting thing is when you are not actively through Facebook, it has great mini mode window which shows the most recent status update on your news feed. You can check last 200 entries but it will be nice to keep news feed open while you’re doing other things.
In a full view mode, some pages are slow to load especially news feed. At a whole it is definitely a great desktop client. Fishbowl is a free download for Windows systems, requires Silverlight from Microsoft to use.
